Description
Detailed Description 1941 Consolidated Landseaire PBY Project. N5PY, S/N #417 is the last PBY with all of the Landseaire modifications in place. It served in WW2 as Canso 9746 with No. 162 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force doing coastal patrol and convoy escort duties along the Eastern coast of Canada and between North America and Iceland. Purchased by Southern California Aircraft Services in Ontario, California. It was then modified under FAA Type Certificate #785 as a Consolidated 28-5ACF and certificates in the Standard Airworthy Category. The aircraft was extensively upgraded to the Landseaire Flying Yacht. Almost all of the options of the Landseaire conversion were installed. This included dual underwing support boats, aft air stair passenger entry door, passenger emergency exits, Vista Lounge View blisters, certified fuel jettison system, boosted aileron trim tabs and upgraded Pratt and Whitney 1830-94 engines producing 1350 HP at Take-off power. N5PY is not only the last surviving Landseaire it is an amazing and historic amphibian. The view from the bubble windows is the most inspiring in aviation! The current owners operated the aircraft for about 25 hours before deciding on an "Inspect and repair as necessary" program to update and modernize the airplane. The engines were preserved per P&W instructions. ALL of the repairs were completed using original Consolidated Catalina PBY blueprints from the Smithsonian Institute and the majority of the Landseaire drawings. Extrusions and metal are ALL new manufacture w/documentation. ALL parts were etched, alodined and painted with Boeing 'fluid resistant' epoxy primer. Required sealing of the hull was done using current marine sealants.
