About pilot medical exams
First class medicals (airline transport pilots) must be issued by a Senior AME. Any AME can issue second class (commercial) and third class (private, student, recreational) medicals.
HIMS AMEs are trained in the FAA's Human Intervention Motivation Study program and handle special issuance for pilots in substance-use treatment and recovery.
Start every exam by completing FAA Form 8500-8 online in MedXPress, then bring the confirmation number to your AME.
