Accident & incident history

1990-11-08 Accident · Suffolk, VA Damage: Destroyed Fatal injury NTSB · BFO91DID01
Reported aircraft: Aeronca Champion 7BCM — a different aircraft that carried the N7702B registration before this airframe.
Probable cause: A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO LOW CYLINDER COMPRESSION. THE LOW COMPRESSION WAS A RESULT OF EXHAUST VALVE LEAKAGE AND INADEQUATE MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION. IN ADDITION, THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE AIRSPEED WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRPLANE STALLING.
